Souperrr Event!

A big THANK YOU to all helpers, providers of food and everyone who supported the soup and pudding festive lunch on Sunday, 22 December. It was a buzzing two hours and the fantastic sum of just over £470 was raised for the Collieston Pier Fund.

Collieston & Slains WRI extend best wishes to everyone for the festive season and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014.

On behalf of the pier group, many thanks to everyone in Collieston who contributed to yesterday’s successful visit from the party of young civil engineers from Delft University.   Thanks are also due to engineering company Royal Haskoning who provided the transport to take the group up from Edinburgh for the day and who also made available the services of one of their members of staff for the visit.   It was very encouraging to hear the range of ideas which were generated by two dozen keen young minds!   We now hope that Delft University may consider the pier’s future as a possible study project for a small group of students.  We hope to hear more over the course of the next few months.

Villagers may see a group of visitors at the pier and the community centre this Saturday (Dec 7.)  They are from Delft University’s civil engineering department.   The group are on a study tour in Scotland at present and have very kindly agreed to spend some time in Collieston to see if they can give us any advice on what to do with the pier.  The pier group are indebted to Huib Attema, treasurer of Slains and Collieston Community Council, for  facilitating this visit.   We plan to give the group a warm village welcome (including hot soup!) and hope that the weather is not too bad!!!
