Four members of the Collieston Rowing Club, along with two rowers from Catterline, took part in the Great River Race in London last Saturday. A 21.5 mile course up the river Thames from the centre of the city to Eel Pie Island.
Along with 270 other rowing boats we rowed past Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, the Cenotaph and many other landmarks.
Despite a distinct lack of training (the sea has not been kind this year) and rowing Minerva, a borrowed skiff, we achieved our objectives of finishing and not coming last. We finished about two thirds down the field.
The crew from our sister club at Catterline rowing “Spirit of Catterline” were the second St Ayles skiff to finish, only being beaten by a very competitive Dutch crew.
It was a fantastic experience thoroughly enjoyed by all.
