Slains and Collieston Community Council

Slains and Collieston Community Council is the first local tier of elected representation an is run by local volunteers to act on behalf of the area.

As well as representing the community to the local authority, the community council facilliate a wide range of activities that promote the well-being of the community.

Slains and Collieston Community Council held its inaugural meeting on the 3rd of October 2008, when the Constitution was adopted. Before its establishment, the community was ably represented by the Amenities Committee, which was formed in 1958.  The Constitution was subsequently updated in June 2019.

Meetings

  • Community Council Councillors typically meet on the first Wednesday of the month in the community centre.
  • Minutes are taken and posted on this website.
  • Correspondence received by the Council is fully detailed in lists accompanying the minutes.
  • These are available for inspection by any householder or resident upon request.
  • This also applies to the accounts subject to an annual inspection.
  • Aberdeenshire Councillors receive minutes of meetings and are frequently in attendance.

The Blether

The Community Council produces a newsletter called “The Blether” regularly throughout the year.

Digital Noticeboard

The Community Council provides access to various multiple media devices in the commnity centre in the form of a digital noticeboard for for community information and an intergrated projector and sound system for community group use during meetings for presentations and talks.

The Gala

The Community Council try to organise a Gala each year.

  • It is a time when residents and visitors alike come together for a week of fun and activity
  • The first annual Gala took place in 1958 and took place every summer (with the exception of the Covid summers).

  • Burn’s Supper, Bonfire Night, Remberance Service, Senior Citizens Christmas Party
  • Work parties, Village Christmas Tree, upkeep and maintence of village facilities
  • Resiliance Planning, Emergency Equipment like Defibrillators and first aid training
  • Coffee mornings and other Social get-togethers
